Your Local Cooperative Is Better Than A National Provider

on

For the past couple of issues, we've laid out the reasons why 3 Rivers’ fiber broadband internet is better than Low Earth Orbit satellite internet (like Starlink) and in-home cellular internet (like T-Mobile). In this third and final article of the series, we’ll talk about the advantages of using a local cooperative like 3 Rivers vs national providers.

When you choose fiber internet from 3 Rivers you get more than just a fast, reliable internet connection using the best technology available—you become a member of the cooperative. That means you are a part owner and investor in the network, helping to maintain the cooperative’s commitment to providing reliable, affordable service for the communities you, and we, live in.

In addition to the reasons provided in previous issues, such as faster and symmetrical speeds, dedicated fiber connection, lower latency and more, there are plenty of other reasons why 3 Rivers is better than any national satellite or cellular provider:

• Local customer service — Get support from people who live in and understand the communities we serve.

• Investing here — The money you spend stays local rather than primarily benefiting a national corporation.

• Strengthening the community — Dedicated fiber infrastructure supports local businesses, education, telehealth, agriculture, and can lead to economic development.

• Future-proof — 3 Rivers’ fiber network has the capacity to support increasing household and business bandwidth needs as technology continues to evolve. We, and our network, are here to stay.

• Capital credits — Members of the cooperative are allocated a portion of the cooperative’s margins each year. These member allocations are called capital credits. Over time, the board of directors (who are elected by you) approve retirements of the capital credits, which are then paid out to members.

• Giving back — 3 Rivers offers numerous grants and scholarships, supporting community development and youth education (including teachers), while also donating thousands of dollars each year to local organizations and sponsoring local events.

If you’ve read this far, you already know who we are. You’ve probably been to one of the customer appreciation picnics we have every year. You’ve seen us purchase your nephew’s hog at the 4H Fair. You’ve sat next to us at a football game. You’ve seen us at the Augusta Rodeo, Power Harvest Fest or Ennis 4th of July parades.

We didn't run into Elon Musk at any of these events! ■
